Back in the 90s, Judith Wambura emerged as one of few female artists in Tanzania. The “movement” of the new generation music had started. I am not sure if we referred her as “Lady” then. She understood that haste makes waste. Slowly but steadily the lady we now know as Lady Jaydee became dominant.
When I look back and ask myself how has she maintained her position even in the industry full men, the simple answer could be “knowing thyself.” She knows who she is. Those who thought she is a sitting target have come to realize they were/are wrong.
The fans have showered her with different names including “Commando.” They refer to her toughness to fight injustice, sexism and all the above. Among multiple names, however, Lady Jaydee suits her life and persona.
